New York’s Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) is a Level 12 Center, one of seven in the US. This site handles over 1.8 million arrivals and departures each year to the three major airports in the NY Metro area, JFK, LaGuardia, Newark and 47 additional small area airports. This is the busiest airspace in the world.
Dynamic was one of three HVAC contractors chosen by the FAA to bid on the HVAC equipment replacement and control system upgrade. Dynamic was awarded this project largely based on its numerous successfully completed mission critical projects for the FAA including airport control tower and radar site HVAC upgrades at local airports such as Islip MacArthur, Westchester and Republic. Other projects included a radar site so strategic that is heavily guarded by the military. Located in eastern Long Island, this site manages transoceanic air traffic and military escort and intercept flights along the entire east coast.
Replacing HVAC equipment in this mission critical environment could only be successful with precision planning and execution. These 24/7, 365-day sites cannot tolerate lack of HVAC or any down time. This project involved installation of temporary HVAC units to back feed the systems while new equipment was installed. In all, nine hot and chilled water air handlers with associated piping and controls were successfully replaced…on time and on budget!
In addition, this was a “turn-key” project. Dynamic managed and performed all aspects of the project including general construction, electrical, temporary protection and yes, HVAC.
